Greg Curley (a.k.a. Anthony Oberbeck), Out of Character, Friday at 8pm.

The Playground’s newest production, Out of Character, focuses on well-written and performed solo character sketches, turning each piece into a fully-realized improvised show. This week the Out of Character cast explores the life of Greg Curley, as played by Anthony Oberbeck, Friday at 8pm.

Greg is a recently divorced, infrequently employed aspiring artist.  It took him seven years of bouncing around colleges in the late-eighties/early-nineties to get a degree in comparative visual media (his thesis was a comparison between the Planet of the Apes series and Desert Storm) with a minor is audio engineering from Columbia.  Living up to his vow to never give in to corporate bullshit, he turned down grad school, and the only jobs he’s ever worked are as a part-time waiter or barback.  he has written several screenplays, plays bass guitar, and was an avid photographer in the local music scene until digital photography took over and he quit.  He married at 36 and six years later is divorced.  His family likes to tell him it’s maybe time to grow up a little bit.  Although he’s 42, people who have just talked to him for the first time often guess his age at 29, 30ish.

Out of Character is performed by Mel Evans, Sarah Fineout, Sayjal Joshi, Lisa Linke, Wendy Mateo, Anthony Oberbeck, Conner O’Malley, Patrick Raynor, Patrick Rowland, Micah Sterenberg, and Rob White. The show is directed and produced by Matt Barbera.

Tickets are just $10, and our theater is always BYOB. Two Playground improv ensembles — Wing Night and Karate Van — also perform.
